Architects and Designers Produce “Society” as a Field of Knowledge and Activity, Every Day.

Like others, including lawyers, doctors, social workers, engineers, artists, writers, planners, politicians, bankers, managers, clergy, etc., architects and designers produce “society” as a field of knowledge and activity, every day. Society as such does not pre-exist their work. The question, then, is not whether their work changes society, but how, in their work, they care for, administer, and “design” it, in what direction they guide it, in the interest of what powers, what rulers, and what assemblages they produce it.
